Mission:

This acoustics and vibration research laboratory is concerned with the analysis, design and synthesis of passive noise control techniques in cavities; broadband noise control in buildings and industrial zones using architectural ceiling designs; Recycling of plastic and e-waste and preparation of noise absorbing material; development of simplified reactance models for detuned radiatterer and detuned Helmholtz resonators; automotive and mechanical transmission systems for reducing noise and vibration; study of acoustic sources and transmission paths; study of active suspension systems; Dynamic behaviour control of vehicle system: Application of Magneto-rheological Damper for Quarter Car, Half Car and Full Car Models.

Since most of the mechanical systems produce vibration and noise, it has become a major concern to the researchers to handle these with simple solutions. Current solutions focus on high frequency noise control using foam and active cancellations which encourages the use of extra material which occupies space and increases the weight and cost of the structure. To avoid this, acoustics and vibration group focus on passive noise control techniques using architectural ceiling designs which themselves acts like sound absorbing components. Developing simplified reactance formulas for detuned radiatterer and preparation of sound absorbing and thermally effective material using plastic & e-waste are few more basic research works taken up by this group. In vibration this group is mainly focusing on active suspension systems for which MR dampers were being studied for Quarter, Half and Full Car models. Refer to the journal publications where over 30 articles have been posted; these provide specific information on the knowledge generated.

Major facilities include SINUS Soundbook_MK2 Hardware, SAMURAI 8ch SLM / Multi Analyzer software, Visual Modal Pro Modal analysis software: Modeling & Simulation, PCB Peizotronics Tri-axial accelerometer, PCB Peizotronics Uni-axial accelerometers, PCB Peizotronics Impact hammer, PCB Peizotronics load cell, MicroTech Gefell GmbH 1/2" Random Incidence microphones, SINUS Dodecahedral Loud speaker with power amplifier, computer-aided analysis, design and testing software including finite element programs are also available.
